T+AA bring an interest in developing an architectural expression reflective of the region and the City. To this we bring an interest in the histories of our clients (in this case, the city of Canberra and the nation of Australia), which enter into and enrich our ideas.

Mining the history of Canberra and this site means respecting what has gone before; means enhancing the present and enabling the future. More than resolving just the functional equation is the challenge of creating a destination that lifts the whole precinct - to be an architectural catalyst and unifier.

Our proposal draws together landscape and architecture through a highly transparent pair of pavilions, expressive of the craft of building and redolent of geometry and proportioning inherent in the Canberra plan. The sub structure allows a fresh structural expression evocative of wharfs and suggests lightness in the grounding of the building and sheltering spaces below.

This proposal creates an environment greater than the sum of its parts; stitching together the latent opportunities of the site and connecting views with public spaces. This translates directly into the quality of the offering, responsive to the high profile environment and attractive to the market
